M´Bera

Refugee camp

More than 50,000 refugees arrived in the M'Bera camp in Mauritania in 2012. Fighting between the Malian army, the Tuareg movement and other armed groups pushed a large population to flee to this refugee camp in the middle of the Sahel desert. Years later, the arrivals of people fleeing Mali continued and the numbers were around 70,000. Its population continues to grow currently and the settlement is permanent.
